Bio

Jeewon Yoo is a literary critic who writes on British and Anglophone literatures from the nineteenth century to the present day with a special interest in the novel. He is currently working on a book that examines the history of the genre through the figure of the new person—ranging from the social types of the nineteenth century that unsettle standing taxonomies of social life to the new peoples and nations that emerge after decolonization.

Jeewon’s work has appeared in Memoria di Shakespeare and is forthcoming in Genre and D. H. Lawrence Review. Forthcoming in Book History is an article co-authored as part of the Shakespeare and Company Project at Princeton’s Center for Digital Humanities. With Christopher GoGwilt, he is co-editing a special issue of Joyce Studies Annual, “James Joyce; or, The Imitation Machine.” 

At Notre Dame, Jeewon teaches courses on histories of the lyric and the novel. Previously, he was at Williams College, where he taught three courses: “Growing Pains,” “Second Chances,” and “Comedy.” That about sums him up.
