Research Profile

A scholar of Milton and early modern literature and intellectual history, Fallon is the author ofMilton among the Philosophers, winner of the Milton Society of America's Hanford Award, andMilton’s Peculiar Grace: Self-Representation and Authority(Cornell, 2007), winner of aChoiceMagazine Outstanding Academic Title award. He has co-editedThe Complete Poetry and Essential Prose of John Miltonwith William Kerrigan and John Rumrich for Random House/Modern Library (2007) and the Modern Library edition ofParadise Lost(2008), taken from the larger edition. His articles on Milton and on the Renaissance have appeared in various journals, includingPMLAand theJournal of the History of Ideas, and in multi-contributor volumes. Fallon is on the Editorial Board of the Yale Milton Encyclopedia. He has won two NEH Fellowships, and has been a Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation. Fallon has been named Honored Scholar for 2011, the Milton Society of America's lifetime achievement award. In 2001, he received the Charles Sheedy Award for Teaching in the College of Arts & Letters. With Clark Power, he co-founded and continues to teach a course in literary and philosophical classics at the South Bend Center for the Homeless.
